more info, and a call for help

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the feedback I'm getting. Here's a couple of things...

If you're having trouble accessing a collection, try putting the
collection URL into your web browser. You should see the music
folders, and a file called library.xml in there. If that isn't
working, then either it's not being shared properly on the other end,
or there's some kind of connection problem between your machines.

If you go into the Sharing Settings window and the Fix Permissions
button is enabled, that means that the file or folder permissions are
not set properly for sharing. Clicking the button will set the shared
music folder contents to be visible by everyone, which is what is
necessary for sharing.

Finally, I need developers. It would be great to have more people
looking at the code. So if you program, sign up for a sourceforge
account, check out the CVS module, and build a copy. What I'd love is
for someone to contribute some code that announces and discovers
collections via Rendezvous. I'll do it myself, once the foundation is
a bit more stable, but it might be easy for someone else to add in the
meantime.

Thanks,
Jim

Hmm.. I don't know, I'm having problems even connecting to your
icommune.net music folder. I did once on one of the machines hre, but
deleted the playlist while playing w/ different things and now I can't
get the list again. The little world icon appears but the update
button never glows blue. I tried trashing the app and all files
containing the word 'icommune' then rebooted and reinstalled but alas..
nada. Any ideas?

Oh, and here's a thought... it'd be nice if there was a way to update
the info in a collection (ie change the name or address). I, as w/
many people I'm sure, use a computer that uses DHCP. Now, say a friend
of mine adds my name to their list, a few days go by and they want to
connect again, but alas my address has changed. Ok, while deleting and
reentering the info isn't THAT big of a deal, it'd be thing to be able
to do.. plus it'd help me realize when I've got a typo in an address v.
a bad link.

- btw, excellent start! Can't wait to be able to use this in a more
real way!

ok, I just reread my post... I don't think I made it clear what exactly
it is NOT doing. Basically it's not sending any info to iTunes.

ok after even MORE research... I see in the console:

ugAssert: iCommune.app: collection has not changed, no update: Jim's
Music [line 179, file Source/collections.c]

So, apparently it's checking this list against... well something. Is
there anyways to force an update? Once you delete a list from iTunes
is it gone forever or can I reset some hidden list somewhere so
iCommune will update?
